Sonko said the Supreme Court verdict was unjust and curtailed his political rights and that of the people he represents.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has moved to the East African Court to challenge the Supreme court ruling that dismissed his appeal.

In his appeal seen by Nairobi Leo, Sonko said the Supreme Court verdict was unjust and curtailed his political rights and that of the people he represents.

"The decision of the Kenyan judicial arm is tainted with illegality as the decision of the high court as upheld by the Supreme Court was influenced through corrupt means," court papers seen by this writer reads in part.

In the same court papers, Sonko argued that Justice Said Chitembwe who was part of the bench that upheld his impeachment is pending investigations by a tribunal appointed by the President over misconduct allegations.

Part of the complaint before the tribunal he says is that Chitembwe was biased and mischievous in the manner in which he handled his impeachment case.

This, he said, affected his pursuit of justice.

"The determination of the proceedings before the tribunal will have a bearing on the challenged judgment of the high court culminating in this appeal," he stated.

Sonko now wants the EAC court to suspend the execution of the decision by the Apex court pending a hearing and determination of the application and reference.
