President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed optimism that the BBI process will be back on course soon, thanks to the top legal minds working on appeals against the High Court ruling that termed BBI unconstitutional.

Speaking in Siaya on Sunday, Uhuru singled out Senator James Orengo and noted that with such a top legal scholar, there's no way they'll lose the appeal.

He urged locals not to lose hope, adding that they should be ready to do their part when the ball is thrown to them.

"We have just experienced a minor setback in courts but I am sure that with the brilliant legal minds we have like Orengo, we will definitely emerge victorious at the Court of Appeal so that we achieve our goal to bring Kenyans together," said President Kenyatta.

"What is before us will be sorted out. If we have lawyers like James Orengo, can we be defeated really? he posed.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal is on Wednesday this week expected to start hearing the appeals filed against the High Court on BBI.

In a statement issued last week, the Registrar, Court of Appeal Moses Serem gave instructions to lawyers who have filed civil applications following the High Court ruling.

Registrar Serem said there will be a case management conference on June 2, 2021, before a three-judge bench at 9 am.

Further, only one lawyer will be allowed inside the court premise in adherence to MoH guidelines on Covid-19 management.

"The case management conference shall provide an opportunity for the court to give appropriate directions on various issues, including but not limited to: i) The viability of hearing the substantive appeals rather than the rule 5(2) (b) applications; (ii) The length of the submissions to be filed (iii) The amount of time required for parties to prepare and exchange submissions (iv) Logistical issues relating to the hearing of the applications/appeals," the statement read in part.
