Police Storm UDA Meeting Held In Hotel (Video)

Police stormed and dispersed a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Pary meeting in Meru on Monday.

Officers termed the meeting as illegal and asked all members who had congregated to leave immediately.

However, the convener of the meeting UDA SG Veronica Maina said the actions of the police was illegal since the meeting was being held inside a hotel.

But police stood their grounds noting that all political gatherings were banned due to Covid-19 and special permits are required by parties that wish to hold them.

The officers also threatened to fire teargas to the congregation if they refused to leave.

This comes after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced a ban on all political gatherings and the extension of the nationwide curfew for 60 days.

In a gazette notice, CS Matiang'i said the dusk to dawn curfew will start at 10 pm and ending at 4 am while all political gatherings remained banned until further notice.

“This order shall apply during the hours of darkness between ten o’clock in the evening and four o’clock in the morning with effect from May 28th 2021 and shall remain in effect for a period of sixty days thereof,” Dr Matiang’i said.

“There shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement, either alone or as a group, during the period of the curfew except as shall be permitted in writing,” he added.
