The statement comes hours after Chebukati said two IEBC commissioners were injured during the chaos witnessed at Bomas of Kenya. 

Hours after IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati directed police to launch investigations into the chaotic incidents witnessed at the Bomas of Kenya, the National Police Service (NPS) has issued an update.

In the statement issued on Thursday night, August 17, police noted that investigations into the brutal murder of the 53-year-old Daniel Musyoka were underway. 

"In the first incident, police are investigating the disappearance and brutal murder of the 53-year-old Daniel Musyoka, an IEBC Returning Officer for Embakasi East Constituency. The deceased went missing on 11th August 2022 and his body found on 15th August 2022 within Loitoktok in Kajiado County.

"DCI homicide detectives investigating the murder witnessed a post-mortem today and samples have been taken for further forensic analysis," police said.

On the chaos witnessed when IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati was about to announce the president-elect on Monday, police disclosed that CCTV files had already been collected. 

"On the second incident which involved fracas at the IEBC National Tallying Centre-Bomas, police are seized of the matter and pursuing the investigation. CCTV files have been collected and forwarded for further forensic analysis to aid the investigation," police stated.

IEBC chair Wafula called for the arrest and prosecution of leaders who perpetrated the attack on two commissioners Commissioners Prof. Abdi Guliye, Boya Molu, and CEO Marjan Marjan.

"During the announcement of the presidential results, Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Commissioners Prof. Abdi Guliye, and Boya Molu, and CS/CEO Marjan H. Marjan were physically attacked, assaulted, and injured by persons in the company of certain political leaders. We call for the arrest and prosecution of these assailants regardless of their political affiliation," he said.
