Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Monday rescued a 4-year-old boy who was kidnapped by his grandparents' houseboy.

The operation was mounted after Liam Ngushwa went missing from his grandparents' home and later spotted with the kidnapper identified as Delvin Maina.

"Baby Liam who is believed to have been kidnapped by his grandparents’ houseboy, was found at a house in Naivasha, following days of his painstaking search," the DCI said.

Liam's parents had asked Kenyans to volunteer any information after their sn went missing on June 2, 2021.

"The 4-year-old boy has since been reunited with his parents, who couldn’t hide their joy holding the little angel, after five days of tears and anguish. The distraught parents and relatives had in an online appeal that went viral, asked Kenyans to volunteer any information they may have had, regarding their son’s whereabouts. The parents disclosed that their son had last been seen in Thika, in the company of one Charles King’ori alias Delvin Maina who was their houseboy."

"Today’s rescue followed a meticulous mission, executed by detectives from the Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau, augmented by their Special Service Unit counterparts. Meanwhile, detectives are pursuing baby Liam’s captors, who escaped narrowly moments before the rescue," the DCI's statement read.

This comes in the wake of a series of child abductions some of which have turned fatal like the case of 8-year-old Shantel Nzembi.

Shantel was kidnapped on May 29, 2021, and her body was found dumped along a road in Kitengela town on May 31.

Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder. On Thursday, two suspects; Francis Mbuthia and Livingstone Makacha were arraigned before a court and remanded for 10 days.

Today the court also detained the key suspect Nativity Mutindi Nthuku for 10 days to allow detectives to complete the investigations.
