Kisumu County Assembly has suspended sittings for 2 weeks following the surging cases of Covid-19 infections.

Kisumu County Assembly has today, June 9, 2021, suspended sittings over a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases.

This comes as a preventive measure to curb further spread of the virus after a number of staffers and lawmakers tested positive for the virus.

Kisumu County has been on the spot since the establishment of the Indian Covid-19 variant in the county.

The Ministry of Health yesterday announced Covid-19 statistics, revealing Kisumu continues to lead in the number of cases reported in the country.

MoH has since urged residents of the county to pay strict attention to regulations issued by the government in the fight against the pandemic.

On June 1, Kenya marked its 58th Madaraka Day celebrations in Kisumu City, a move that saw experts criticise the decision on grounds of further spread of the virus.

The government yesterday, June 8, conceded that the historic fete may have accelerated the surge of the virus in the county.

Today, Kisii County also directed all its staff to work from home.

The county's Head of Public Service Lumumba said that the directive was as a result of the rising Covid-19 cases in the country.
