The United States (US) Department of State has also advised its citizens to exercise caution while visiting Turkana, some coastal areas and the Kenya-Somali border.

The United States (US) Department of State has urged its citizens to exercise caution while visiting some areas in Nairobi, specifically; Kibera and Eastleigh.

In a recent advisory posted on its website, the US State Department noted that Eastleigh and Kibera are prone to cases of crime and kidnapping.

“Violent crime, such as armed carjacking, mugging, home invasion, and kidnapping, can occur at any time. Local police are willing but often lack the capability to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents and terrorist attacks. Emergency medical and fire service is also limited.

“Terrorist attacks have occurred with little or no warning, targeting Kenyan and foreign government facilities, tourist locations, transportation hubs, hotels, resorts, markets/shopping malls, and places of worship. Terrorist acts have included armed assaults, suicide operations, bomb/grenade attacks, and kidnappings,” the advisory read in part.

The US state department also urged its citizens to exercise caution while travelling towards the Kenya-Somalia border, some coastal areas, and Turkana County due to risk of terror attack and crime prevalence.

Regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, the US State Department urged its citizens to be careful as Kenya is at a moderate level in handle the virus.

“The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 Travel Health Notice for Kenya due to COVID-19, indicating a moderate level of COVID-19 in the country,” the State Department’s statement read in part.
