The National assessment tests for Grade Four and Class 8 pupils that were set to begin on Monday, October 19, 2020, have been postponed to Wednesday, October 21.

In a statement on Monday, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chief Executive Officer Mercy Karogo said the decision was informed by the Mashujaa Day celebrations slated for Tuesday, October 20.

“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to inform you that due to the Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20, the date for administration of learning assessment tools has changed,” KNEC said in a statement.

Learners Assessment

Knec acting chief executive Mercy Karogo had written to headteachers asking schools to make appropriate preparations for the assessment.

Class Eight learners will be assessed in all they have learned from Standard One to Class Seven.

The assessment will be administered at school level as per the guidelines and assessment schedules provided by Knec.

Schools have been closed for seven months and though some have been offering online classes, many children, especially those in public institutions, have gone without any form of curriculum instruction.
