Coast Region Police Commander Paul Ndambuki revealed that the former United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Secretary-General defied summons by the DCI on Thursday, last week.

Detectives in Mombasa have launched a manhunt for Presidential aspirant Mukhisa Kituyi after he failed to appear at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices at Nyali Police Station to record a statement after he was accused of assaulting a woman.

Coast Region Police Commander Paul Ndambuki revealed that the former United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Secretary-General defied summons by the DCI on Thursday, last week.

“He seems to be elusive and the next course of action is to send detectives from where the complaint was lodged to liaise with detectives in Nairobi or any other location where he will be found to enable us record his statement and prefer relevant charges against him,” Ndambuki stated.

He noted that the complainant, Diana Opemi Lutta, was still pressing charges, adding that his file will be presented to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“We cannot continue holding the file since the matter is still active and the complainant is still ready to pursue the matter before a court of law.

"We will have the file forwarded to the office of the DPP to enable us seek a warrant of arrest for the suspect and further directions,” Ndambuki said.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Thursday, June 10, summoned Kituyi to appear at the Nyali Police Police Station and record a statement, which he failed to.

An officer privy to the investigations has since revealed that Kituyi directed his lawyer to reach out to Diana and have the matter settled out of court.

Two security guards and two hotel staff who witnessed the incident have already recorded statements with the police.

“Detectives have already recorded statements of four other witnesses who saw what transpired,” Ndambuki said.

Diana had accused Kituyi of assaulting her while in his company at a five-star hotel in Mombasa.

The alleged incident was filed at the Nyali Police Station under Occurrence Book (OB) Number 10/22/05/2021, on May 22.

Diana told People Daily that the former cabinet minister became physical with her after she rejected her sexual advances.

She alleged that Kituyi pushed her off the bed and continued to kick her while on the floor. She claimed to have injured her knee from the fall.'

Kituyi had denied the allegations, however, conceding that a case was filed against him but was later withdrawn.

“Someone had written a report claiming l had assaulted her but it was not true, I’ve never beaten any woman in my life nor do I intend to ever do it at any given time. We sorted out the case and it was withdrawn,” the politician was quoted as saying.
