Police have rescued Hafsa Mohamed Lukman from her kidnappers in a house in Kayole, Nairobi.

The 23-year-old woman was kidnapped on June 14 in Eastleigh after leaving her shop in the company of another woman identified as Hafsa Abdulwahab.

Reports had emerged indicating that kidnappers asked the family for Ksh5 million as a ransom for a 23-year-old businesswoman.

According to her brother-in-law Omar Ibrahim, the abductors texted the family on Wednesday, June 16 at 11:30 pm demanding ransom.

The family expressed their dismay adding that they are worried the abductors might harm Ms Mohammed.

A video of Hafsa blindfolded and asking her family to send money was shared on social media leaving the public angry at the actions of her abductors.

Her face was swollen and her eyes blindfolded in her hijab and fastened with tape around her head. A voice is also heard telling her to speak in a language that the abductors understand while they recorded her plea.

“I have been kidnapped, and they’re demanding ransom. Please, send it,” Hafsa said in Swahili.

CCTV footage obtained from Hafsa’s store showed her in the company of a woman at the store at 4:44 pm on Tuesday.

The woman has been identified as Hafsa Abdulwahab who is a businesswoman in Kayole.

The two left the shop for Kayole and reports have also indicated that Ms Abdulwahab is also missing.
