  • Court rules vetting and swearing-in of Ann Kananu as Nairobi Governor was within the law.

High Court has thrown out Mike Sonko's petition challenging the appointment of Anne Kananu’s as Nominated Deputy Governor.

“The nomination, vetting, approval and swearing-in of Kananu as Deputy Governor was constitutional. All petitions challenging her ascendancy are without merit and are hereby dismissed," said Justice Okwany.

Sonko was impeached six months ago over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office with 88 out of 122 MCAs supporting the motion tabled by MCA Micheal Ogada.

He contested the legitimacy of the numbers claiming that MCAs allied to him were illegally logged in.

"Numbers don't lie see for yourself.1-57 Niko nao. As we continue with efforts to defeat the impeachment motion at the County Assembly, it’s unfortunate that those behind the scheme to bring me down have resorted to intimidation and dirty tricks to achieve their selfish interests," Sonko tweeted.
