A three-year-old baby girl on Monday narrowly escaped death after a truck crushed and killed her mother, yet she was strapped on her back.

Reports indicate that the truck veered off the Sori-Rodi Kopany road in Homa Bay County, hitting Sharon from behind as she was walking along the road.

Ndhiwa Sub-county Police Commander Robert Aboki confirmed the tragic accident, adding that th driver of the lorry surrendered to the police after an angry mob attempted to attack him.

 “The driver drove to the police station to escape mob attack. He reported the matter to us and we have detained him,” Aboki said as quoted by a local daily.

The police boss further noted that they are investigating the matter before presenting the driver to court.

“He will be taken to court after completion of our investigations,” he added.

According to witness reports, separating the little girl from her mother’s body was tough as she kept wailing.

The body of the deceased was taken to Manyatta Kobodo mortuary, while the baby girl was taken to Ndhiwa Sub-county Hospital for treatment.
