During the court session, Waititu’s lawyers claimed that the former governor was unable to appear in court as he was on a 7-day bed rest.

A magistrate hearing a graft case against former Kiambu Governor Ferdnand Waititu on Wednesday expressed his disappointment after the latter failed to appear in court citing medical reasons.

During the court session, Waititu’s lawyers claimed that the former governor was unable to appear in court as he was on a 7-day bed rest.

Reacting to the remark by Waititu’s lawyers, Magistrate Nzuki Thomas directed all accused persons in the case to ensure they avail themselves in future hearings.

“Let people attend hearings. I don’t want to hear adjournments. Don’t come and generate another medical opinion. Let’s stand and hear matters that’s where justice lies,” he said on Wednesday,” he said as quoted by Citizen.

The case is set to be heard on Monday October 26, 2017.

Waititu Corruption case

Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari Ndung’u are accused of misappropriating county funds amounting to Sh588million by issuing an irregular tender.

They both pleaded not guilty and were later released on a cash bail with Waititu being barred from accessing office.

The ruling formed a basis for the Kiambu County Assembly to commence an impeachment motion against Waititu.

The motion was successful both in the assembly and at the Senate, therefore rendering Waititu jobless.
