Former CJ Mutunga: For all practical purposes, Baba is a co-President isn't he? In political and protocol terms... coalitions happen... sometimes parties come together and they do stuff in national interest or their own interests

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga on Wednesday opined that ODM leader Raila Odinga is a co-president to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV’s JKL Show, Mutunga noted that the opposition had joined government, and as such there are no sharp critics of the current regime.

"…For all practical purposes, Baba is a co-President isn't he? In political and protocol terms... coalitions happen... sometimes parties come together and they do stuff in national interest or their own interests..." he said.

Addressing a proposal in the Building Bridges Initiative report seeking the expansion of the executive for inclusivity purposes, the former CJ noted that the proposal does not warrant amending

"I still find it difficult that we would change the Constitution on that particular issue," he said.

Mutunga's take on gender rule

On the issue of the two thirds gender rule, Dr Mutunga believes that Parliament ought to have implemented the law and complied with several court ruling issued previously.

“… I would say the problem is just impunity, the courts have said it ought to be done… Disobeying court orders is actually overthrowing the Constitution,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Kenyatta and Odinga received the BBI report on Wednesday at a ceremony held at Kisii State lodge.

Speaking at the event, the Head of State urged Kenyans to read the report adding that the official unveiling will be done on Monday at the Bomas of Kenya.
