The hearing of the murder case against Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa on Thursday morning failed to kick off after the Directorate of Public Prosecutions failed to produce a mental assessment report for the legislator's co-accused.

Mombasa High Court Magistrate Njoki Mwangi halted the hearing even as she queried the validity of Jumwa’s results, saying there were inconsistencies in the report.

As at Thursday morning when the hearing was expected to commence, the DPP's office had not handed in the psychiatric results of Jumwa's co-accused Geoffrey Otieno.

The court only ratified a mental assessment report for the third accused person.

The magistrate had directed the DPP's office to avail all relevant documents before the court if the case is to be heard today.

Jumwa and Mr Otieno have been in custody at the Port Police after they were denied bail on Monday.

The Malindi MP is expected to take a plea to murder charges. She was subjected to a mental check at the Coast General Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

The vocal MP is being accused of killing 48-year-old Ngumbao Jola on October 15th after chaos broke out when she stormed an ODM meeting during the Ganda Ward by-elections.

High Court Magistrate Njoki Mwangi said the case will be heard on November 25, 2020. The MP is seeking to be released on bail.
