The Government through the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced traffic disruptions along Mombasa Road effective Monday, August 9, 2021.

In a notice on Friday, KURA noted that there will be traffic disruptions from Kartasi Roundabout to General Motors along the busy highway.

According to KURA, the disruptions are meant to create room for the expansion of the road into a dual carriage way.

The agency, however, did not indicate when normal operations will resume on the road, an indication that the exercise might take quite some time.

“Please be advised that as from Monday 9th August 2021, there will be minimal traffic disruptions along Enterprise Road as from Kartasi Roundabout till General Motors (Mombasa Road). This is to allow expansion of the road into a dual carriage way,” KURA said in a notice posted on its official social media pages.

For the past several months, Mombasa Road users have experienced disruptions and huge traffic snarl-ups due to the construction of the Nairobi Expressway running from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Westlands area.

In some instances, users have had to spend hours trying to maneuver through the road as it is used by thousands of vehicles on a single day, meaning any slight disruption, could result in a traffic nightmare.

Once its done, the Nairobi expressway is expected to ease traffic snarl-ups being witnessed in the Nairobi Central Business District.

The Nairobi Expressway construction project is being done by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and is estimated to cost Sh59.9 billion.
