Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua has ordered the transfer of two police bosses in Embu County over the deaths of two brothers in police custody.

Kithangari OCS Abdullahi Yaya and Embu North OCPD Emily Ngaruiya have been transferred following public outcry over the deaths of Benson Njiru Ndwiga,22, and Emmanuel Mutura Ndwiga, 19.

The two brothers went missing on Sunday having been arrested by the police for flouting COVID19 regulations.

Their bodies would be found at Embu Level 5 Mortuary on Tuesday.

Police reports indicated that the two jumped off a moving vehicle suffering injuries that caused their deaths.

An autopsy conducted on Thursday invalidated the claims made by the police.

The post mortem revealed that the brothers suffered multiple injuries with Benson's body exhibiting multiple head injuries and broken limbs.

The younger brother, Emmanuel, only had injuries that could have been caused by a blunt object.

The deaths of the two brothers have incensed Kenyans with protests breaking out in Kianjokoma in Embu County.

Police officers attempting to quell the protests shot one person dead.

On social media, the quest for justice for the Ndwiga family was one of the top trending topics in the country.

Pressure is piling on the government to rein in on police brutality that has been the cause of death for many Kenyan youths.
