The annual devolution conference will proceed as planned in Makueni County from August 23rd to 26th, CS Eugene Wamalwa has confirmed.

This comes after a section of leaders from Makueni appealed to the Government to postpone the conference due to surging cases of Covid-19 in the country.

Addressing the press on Thursday 12 August 2021, the Council of Governors (CoG) leadership alongside CS Eugene Wamalwa noted that appropriate measures had been taken to ensure the safety of those attending.

However, the number of delegates attending the conference in Makueni County has been reduced from 6000 to 1000.

The Council of Governors also insisted that those attending the conference have been vaccinated.

“To actualize this, the COG in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Makueni County has rolled out a massive vaccination drive. Currently, there is an ongoing vaccination drive at COG offices to ensure that all registered delegates are fully vaccinated,” CoG said.

On the other hand, Makueni leaders led by Senator Mutula Kilonzo had asked the Government to consider postponing the event as it would leave behind unmanageable damage due to Covid-19.

The leaders questioned whether it was feasible to have all the leaders attending the conference get vaccinated with their first and second dose before the conference kicks off.
