Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has today released the 2021/2022 students placement into universities and colleges at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi.

Speaking during the release of the placement report, Magoha directed the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to conduct an inter-institution transfer process to help students align their courses and move from one university or college to the other.

“To enable successful applicants to further align their courses, I am directing KUCCPS to conduct the Inter-Institution transfer process online from September 1st to September 30th, 2021,” Magoha said.

According to the placement report, 265,145 students are set to pursue degree and TVET courses in the 2021/2022 academic cycle.

KUCCPS CEO Agnes Wahome said 128,073 students have been placed in different universities to pursue degree courses while 137,072 will join TVET institutions.

Meanwhile, CS Magoha noted that a new trend has emerged where candidates who qualify for university admission are increasingly embracing TVET courses despite having attained grades to join university.

According to the CS, in the 2020 KCSE, 6,617 students who attained C+ and above chose TVET programmes and were placed, up from 2,632 in 2019.

The CS advised teachers to work closely with students and guide them based on what they are strong at, rather than focusing solely on pushing the students to get university admission.

According to the CS, some students have a desire to join the police service and defense forces, therefore, it is unfair to push them into joining universities, yet that is not what they want to do.
