The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an update on the status of Kenyans in Afghanistan, noting that 12 Kenyans were working in the country by the time its leadership was taken over by Taliban.

According to the Ministry, three Kenyans have already been evacuated from Afghanistan, adding that efforts are in place to evacuate the remaining nine.

The main challenge according to the government is the fact that Kenya does not have diplomatic presence in Afghanistan.

However, the Ministry has said it is talks with allies to help establish contact and evacuate the remaining Kenyans.

So far, the Ministry says its Islamabad embassy has initiated contact with allies in Afghanistan to aid with the evacuation.

Meanwhile, the government has also directed Kenyan Missions in Beijing and Tehran to assist with the evacuation mission.

Taliban; a group associated with terror activities recently stormed Kabul in Afghanistan and took over power, forcing the then Afghanistan President to flee the country.

Known for being violent, their hostile takeover sent panic across the country, with locals and foreigners storming the airport seeking ways of leaving the country.
