President Kenyatta is yet to issue a statement congratulating President-elect William Ruto.

Makueni Governor-elect Mutula Kilonzo Junior has disclosed that he once met President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House where he told him that his biggest legacy for Kenya would be when he hands over power peacefully.

Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, August 23, Mutula noted that the Head of State should break his silence and atleast say something after William Ruto was declared President-elect.

The Makueni Governor-elect mentioned that President Kenyatta should even walk around and look like he is having a good time which would calm down everybody.

"There is a time we had a meeting on BBI and I told the president that his biggest legacy is not this BBI or the highways or good roads but his biggest legacy for Kenya will be the day he will hand over power peacefully. Everyone is wondering what is Uhuru saying?" Mutula stated.

On the other hand, Nairobi Governor-elect Johnson Sakaja said that if he was in President Kenyatta's shoes, he would have called Ruto to congratulate him.

"If I was in the shoes of President Kenyatta, I would call President-elect William Ruto and congratulate him, that’s the most basic thing to do in a democracy," he stated.

President Kenyatta is yet to issue a statement congratulating President-elect William Ruto or regarding the recently concluded general election.

However, Kenyatta recently met religious leaders at State House and assured them that the process of transition will be smooth.
