DP Ruto adviced the parliamentary committee to instead focus their energy elsewhere as he is comfortable at the hands of Administrative police.

Deputy President William Ruto has urged parliament to call off the summon of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

This is after the National Assembly's Committee on Administration and National Security ordered the CS to appear before them and explain the downgrading of the DP's security.

In a statement on August 31, 2021, DP Ruto adviced the parliamentary committee to instead focus their energy elsewhere as he is comfortable at the hands of Administrative police.

The deputy president's security team formerly comprising officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) was replaced by officers from Administration Police.

"Parliamentary time should not be wasted on non-issues. The AP is a professional security service and those who think its a down grade are wrong," DP Ruto stated.

"Parliament should instead focus on deployment to serious security situations in areas where bandits are causing mayhem and destruction," he noted.

Matiang'i is set to appear before the parliamentary committee on September 1.

The Committee chairman, Peter Mwathi, confirmed that Matiang'i will be accompanied by Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, and Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai.

The MPs are seeking to establish the laws and procedures employed by the security agencies in downgrading the DP's security from GSU to AP.

“We want them to shed light on whether the action they took is within the law, and if not, we will have no option but to ensure that the law is followed,” Mwathi stated.
