Quack doctor James Mugo Ndichu alias Mugo Wa Wairimu has been sentenced to three years in jail by a court on Wednesday, October 28, 2020.

Alternatively, the court that Mugo wa Wairimu could avoid the jail sentence by paying a fine of Ksh1.4 million.

He was found guilty of unlawfully carrying out the business of a pharmacist.

In 2018, Mugo was arrested at about 7pm by Flying Squad officers who found him hiding in a house belonging to his cousin.


Arrest

He had been on the run since November 3 after he learnt his workers had been arrested in Nairobi.

The quack doctor was accused of sexually assaulting a sedated patient while posing as a medical doctor.

He was charged with running a pharmacy and a medical laboratory without licenses and pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Martha Mutuku in a Milimani court.


Charges

The prosecution also accused him of operating a medical laboratory without registration and licence from the Kenya Medical Laboratory and Technologists Board. 

Initially, the prosecution asked the court to deny him bond because he has a proven history of jumping bail.

In 2015 he was arrested for operating a clinic without a licence and employing unqualified personnel and again exposed in 2018 by the TV story that showed him running a clinic under the influence of alcohol, allowing unqualified employees to conduct operations and sexually harassing his patients.
