Panic has engulfed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) headquarters after two of its staffers succumbed to the corona virus.
Reports indicate that 12 IEBC staff have also tested positive and are in critical condition across different hospital in the country.
In a memo sent to staff, acting IEBC Chief Executive Officer Hussein Marjan noted that the virus has dealt a blow to the commission, adding that they are working to ensure safety of all staff while at the work place.
In a bid to prevent further spread of the virus, Marjan has banned meetings with more than 20 officials unless approved by management.
“In the last two weeks, more cases of Covid-19 related infections have been reported in the commission leading to hospitalisation of the infected staff and leaving some in very critical condition.

“Staff who interacted with any of the recently confirmed Covid-19 cases to go on self-testing and self-quarantine for 14 days and report status to the CEO or the director HRA,” he said as quoted by The Star.
Uhuru to Convene Extra-ordinary summit on Covid-19
Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that he will convene the sixth extra-ordinary summit on November 4, 2020 to review the surge in Covid-19 infections in Kenya.
"The session has been convened in light of the resurgence of Covid-19 infections across our nation, as exhibited by the fact that Kenya has recorded its highest number of Covid-19 monthly fatalities in October 2020.
"The session shall consider the evolution of the disease as well as the epidemiological models on how Covid-19 may propagate within our country over the months of November and December 2020," an announcement by the office of the President reads partly.
At the summit, stakeholders will seek to evaluate the efficacy of the containment measures in place and the impact of easing the restrictions.
