Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has said he’s been approached by several presidential candidates to be their running mates in the 2022 General Election.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on Citizen TV, Wamatangi said that while he appreciates the interest shown in him, he is not ready to entertain that discussion at the moment.

According to him, his current focus is on his role as Senator and Majority Whip in the Senate, adding that after he finishes his mandate, then he will be ready to engage in politics.

Senator Wamatangi, however, did not mention the candidates who’ve reportedly approached him with the said offers.

“I have been approached and I have had discussions with a quite number of them…I’m training my focus first on delivering on the work that I have as a Senator as the Majority Whip to ensure that the gov't of the President goes all the way to the end he has his legacy well stamped then we can get into politics,” he said.

Over the past few weeks, there has been debate on the role of Mt Kenya region in the 2022 General Election, with some of the region’s leaders backing former Premier Raila Odinga, others DP William Ruto, while a third group led by Martha Karua, Moses Kuria and Mwangi Kiunjuri is yet to announce who’ll they support.

A section of leaders including Moses Kuria have made it clear that any candidate interested in the president must offer Mt Kenya the running mate position and other top positions in his/her government.
