Police officers in Kisumu have launched investigations into a fire that occurred at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) bureau in the lakeside city.

The fire is said to have started at around 11pm on the night of Thursday, September 30, 2021, however, where it originated from is yet to be established.

Officers from the CBK Police Post responded to the scene and began extinguishing the fire. They were later joined by firefighters from the Kisumu County Fire Station.

At the time, the police could not determine the extent of damage caused by the inferno.

According to Kisumu County Police Commander Richard Ng'eno, only a switch box was affected in the night fire.

"The fire was from a hydraulic bollard switch box at the ramp-out gate," Ng'eno said.

He further revealed that the force had constituted a team to probe the origin of the fire at the highly guarded facility.

"Nothing else was damaged apart from the switch box. The cause of fire not established but investigation has commenced," Ngeno stated.

The incident t occurs barely a month after another fire burnt down offices at the department of planning located at Kisumu's prosperity house.

Items collected from the incident including phones among others were taken for analysis in Nairobi.

Officers from the fire department in Kisumu and the disaster sector from Nairobi County visited the scene of the incident on September 28.
