The country's electoral body IEBC has found fault in the Star Newspaper's coverage of a Covid-19 outbreak at its offices.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati in a press statement on Thursday said the newspaper in its story titled 'Two Dead, 12 Critical as Corona Hits IEBC' sensationally reported on the situation at the body.

He termed the reports as false and sensational and that none of its staff was in a critical condition.

"Currently, no staff of the Commission is in critical condition nor fighting for their lives as indicated in the story. The few staff who tested positive to the virus are in a stable condition having been discharged to self-isolate and recuperate at their homes," stated Chebukati.

In his statement, Chebukati consoled with the families of two staff who he confirmed had succumbed to Covid-19 owing to their fight with underlying health conditions prior to contracting the disease.

"The Commission wishes to reiterate the need for the media outlets to ensure objectivity, actuality and accuracy of information being disseminated to avoid causing unnecessary panic and misinformation in the public domain," appealed the IEBC chairman.
