Police in Samburu County have arrested a secondary schoolgirl after she was found in possession of 26kgs of bhang.

From photos shared online, it appears that the bhang was concealed in sacks and placed in a vegetable plantation firm.

According to the police, the schoolgirl was operating alongside another teenager who escaped arrest.

A man-hunt has been launched for the accomplice.

The arrest comes barely a week after a Meru couple was sentenced to life imprisonment over allegation of selling bhang.

James Muthiora, alias, Karinta and his wife Fridah Karimi alongside two others were charged with trafficking 103kg of bhang estimated to be Sh3,090,000 in North Imenti on November 1, 2018.

While delivering his ruling, Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Muraguri said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, and sentenced the couple to life imprisonment, while releasing the other accused parties due to lack of evidence linking them to drug trafficking.

“…In addition to the third count, the accused person was sentenced to life imprisonment for being in possession of utensils used in connection with the preparation of narcotic drugs contrary to Section 5 and Psychotropic Substances Control Act meaning the fine runs concurrently with the life sentence,” the ruling read in part.
