Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has referred to Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua a newcomer in politics, referencing to his 9-year stint as governor.

The two leaders were debating on the issue of owning offshore accounts, and the difference in opinion between them.

They got into a debate after the governor welcomed Khalwale to see things from his perspective and join his bandwagon ahead of 2022.

“Dr Mutua, I thank you for the invite but we have deliberately created UDA, I’m there and respectively, I have no intention of leaving. You are not a bad man but you see why you are excited with those kinds of statements, it's because you are a newcomer in politics. You are only ten years old in politics," Khalwale stated.

The former senator proceeded to detail that he joined politics at the age of 20, and has been fortunate to be around it for a long time.

"This is a struggle we believe in," he added.

Khalwale questioned Mutua's loyalty to the Constitution of Kenya 2010, due to his support of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which proposed numerous changes.

The ex-senator argued that the report would have created a trajectory for civil unrest.

Mutua defended himself arguing that he has also been in politics for a long time.

He further argued that being in politics for a long time does not mean you are good at it.

"You can be a quark doctor who has 40 years of experience and has been killing people. It does not mean you are better than a recent graduate with five years experience," Mutua stated.

The governor revealed that he was a government spokesperson for a long time and has over 20 years in politics.

He maintained that the important thing in leadership is what you are able to do as a leader and not how long you have been there.
