Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has finally explained what got him hospitalized, noting that he was admitted after suffering serious burns on his feet.

Narrating how he got the burns, Kuria who’s been receiving treatment at Karen Hospital for the last two weeks, told Citizen TV he was warming his feet using a warm mart, but unfortunately, it did not work as expected.

According to Kuria, following the recommendation of a friend, he purchased a warm mat from Ceragem in Nairobi to cure numbness in my feet, but the mat ended up burning his legs severely.

“…Because of travelling getting numb and tired, this guy managed to convince me to use a gadget which to the best of my opinion was authorized…This gadget happened to do a slow burning of my feet, I was trying to cure a problem by introducing a killer solution…

“I went home at night and my feet just exploded. I came here the following day, they said I had third-degree burns," he said.

According to Kuria, he’s so far undergone three surgeries, adding that once he fully recovers, he’ll push for Parliament to summon the relevant agencies to explain how such unapproved and unregulated products are being used in the country.

“It was meant to be a solution but it has made me go through three surgeries and many people are using this kind of thing but I urge Kenyans that using these kinds of products outside the regulatory framework is extremely dangerous.

“You’ll see this when we summon the relevant ministries to Parliament to explain how are we allowing such kind of things to happen in this country,” he added.

He further noted that he was planning to acquire a similar device for his mum, but after his ordeal, he has shelved the plans.

Responding to Kuria’s ordeal, Ceragem regretted the incident and apologized adding that all their products are approved by KEBS and fit for local consumption.

“We are sorry for the incident, it is not our intention that our products cause harm… We did not know if he had any existing medical conditions,” a statement from Ceragem read in part.
