Deputy President William Ruto has termed UDA as the most popular political party in Kenya as the country heads to the 2022 general election.
Speaking on Monday while addressing UDA party aspirants and professionals from Kibwezi West and East constituencies in Makueni County, Ruto noted that the party has the highest numbers of legislators in Parliament today.
According to Ruto, UDA currently has 155 MPs allied to it, followed by ODM and Jubilee with 70 and 25 MPs respectively.
“Leo katika Bunge la Kenya, chama ya UDA ndio iko na wabunge wengi zaidi kuliko chama ingine yoyote. Chama ya UDA iko na Wabunge 155, tunafuatwa na ODM iko na wabunge 70, tunafuatwa na wale waliobaki kidogo Jubilee wabunge 25, Wiper 22, alafu wengine wako na mbili tatu huko nyuma,” he said.

The DP further opined that the numbers in Parliament show that the party has a national outlook and urged Makueni residents to support his bid, arguing that all indications show UDA will form the next government.
“Nyinyi watu wa Makueni, wewe kwa maoni yako unaona ni chama gani itaunda serikali? Si inaonekana wazi kwa macho? Ntaka tutengeneze serikali pamoja na nyinyi ndani ya UDA… A village party cannot form a government,” he said.
Taking a swipe at ODM Leader Raila Odinga who the region supported in the 2013 and 2017 presidential race, the DP noted that the former Premier lacks an economic plan for the country.
He criticized Odinga’s recent pledge to give unemployed Kenyans Sh6,000 every month, arguing that the country cannot develop and move further if Kenyans depend on handouts.
“Bado mko na biashara na mtu wa kitendawili? Miaka kumi ya kuhangaika haijatosha? Na mungeniuliza mapema, mimi nlikuwa mtu wa kitendawali nkaona huyu mtu ni wa kupoteza wakati, nkachomoka mapema nikasema hii ni hasara tu. Makosa sikuwaambia mapema, lakini nimekuja sai kuwaambia,” he added.
