43 out of 70 Constituencies Proposed in BBI Will Benefit Mt Kenya Region – Senator Malala

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has announced that he supports the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), but has called for dialogue and consultations to address the gray areas in the BBI document.

Speaking during a funeral service in Munzeywe area, Butsotso Central ward, Kakamega County, Malala claimed that some proposals in the BBI are meant to benefit the Central region as compared to other parts of the country.

He alleged that out of the 70 new constituencies proposed in the document, 43 will benefit residents of the Mt Kenya region.

“…We are going to have 70 more constituencies in Kenya, nakubaliana waongeze hizo constituencies ile jambo mimi nakasirika nayo of the 70 constituencies almost 43 zinaenda region moja kule Mt Kenya. Western we are only given 5, Central 43. Kwa sababu wamepewa zao karibu 30, Rift Valley kwa zile 11 sita ni za watu wao, Nairobi kwa zile 12 karibu 8 ni za watu wao, cumulatively out of 70 almost 43 constituencies are going to one tribe in Kenya,” he said in part.

Woman Reps will not Have Money for Development in Current BBI Document - Malala

He also took issue with the proposal on abolishing of Woman Rep seat at the National Assembly, noting that women leaders will not have funds to spearhead development projects like they did while serving as Woman Representatives in the 47 counties.

He called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Leader Raila Odinga to allow for dialogue noting that failure to do so will leave them with no option other than to meet in the campaign trail.
