Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke’s application to have his passport released by a Nairobi Court has been declined.

The legislator had moved to court seeking the release of his passport to allow him travel to the United States for a Parliamentary function.

However, the court rejected his application, noting that he cannot be allowed to leave the country as he is a convict.

Justice Esther Maina while delivering the ruling noted that Waluke’s passport will remain under the court’s custody as directed in his bail directives.

While being released in September 2020, the court directed Waluke and his co-accused Grace Wakhungu to deposit their passports with the court, and request permission from the court before leaving the country.

Waluke and Wakhungu were imprisoned on June 22, 2020 by the Anti-Corruption Court after they were found guilty of defrauding Sh297 million from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

The court fined the two a cumulative amount of Sh2 billion or a jail term of 39 years for Wakhungu and 34 for Waluke.

After spending three months in prison, Waluke and Wakhungu were released on Sh10 million and Sh20 million cash bail respectively.
