The Wiper Movement Party under the leadership of Kalonzo Musyoka has announced plans to change the party name and its official colours.

Reports indicate going forward, the party will be referred to Wiper Democratic Movement and new colours will be royal blue, white and earth red.

It is not clear why the party has made the decision to change its name, but it is speculated that the change could be part of its preparations ahead of the 2022 general election.

Currently, Wiper is allied to the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) that also has Ford-Kenya, Amani National Congress and KANU among other entities.

During the 2017 general election, the party received massive support from the Ukambani region, but performed poorly in other areas across the country.

However, a lot has changed over the past five years, with the three Ukambani governors; Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Kivuta Kibwana (Makueni) giving Wiper a run for its moneyin the region.

In the recent Nguu/Masumba ward by-election, the Wiper Party candidate Eshio Mwaiwa was trounced by an independent candidate Timothy Maneno who enjoyed the support of Governor Kibwana.

Meanwhile, Kalonzo has made it clear that he will on the ballot come 2022, adding that Wiper has been supporting other candidates for the last ten years, and it is now time for others to support him too.

He is scheduled to go up against Musalia Mudavadi, Senators; Gideon Moi and Moses Wetangula who are also keen on going for the top seat under the OKA banner.
