Mutua stated that that the second in command became a topic of discussion when President Obama visited Kenya in July 2015.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has alleged that Deputy President William Ruto was almost locked out of the meeting with former US President Barack Obama over graft allegations.

Speaking on Citizen TV on the morning of Thursday, November 11, 2021, Mutua stated that that the second in command became a topic of discussion when President Obama visited Kenya in July 2015.

According to the Machakos governor, the deputy president was nearly locked out of the meeting by other diplomats.

"I was a witness when president Obama came to this country… they tried to lock him out of Kasarani. There was a meeting that was being held and they were trying to lock out the DP from attending a meeting with President Obama, it’s a long story I’m writing it in my book…” Governor Mutua stated.

“The question was issues of corruption, graft. He’s got these issues hanging over his head even to the international community that he needs to clear," he added.

Mutua sympathised with the DP for the criticism that is often directed his way for dishing out financial handouts to members of the public.

He urged the DP to reveal his sources of wealth so as to clean his image, noting that donations are not a bad thing.

“If I was William Ruto I would give a spreadsheet. Show where everything comes from, all his companies, not assets but hard currency cash," Muta opined.

The Machakos governor praised DP Ruto for his hard work, noting that he is a man he admires, however, adviced him to tone down a little with the donations.

“This so-called bribing and giving money to groups are not helping. Ninamsaidia hapa, I’m trying to help, I’m neutral… He is a very hardworking man, I admire the way he has worked hard coming from nothing to where he has put himself, but these things continue to hang above his head,” Mutua stated.

“If we could get clarification on the source of all that money, we will move on to ideology and other things,” he added.
