Fifty-two KCSE candidates from Kolanya Boys’ High School in Teso North Sub-County, Busia County have tested positive for COVID-19. 

On Tuesday, October 3, 2020, Governor Sospeter Ojaamong confirmed the reports adding that six teachers from the school have also tested positive for the disease.

They have all been placed under mandatory quarantine at the school and health officers from the Busia County Hospital assigned to attend to them.

On Monday Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced 724 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 5,085 in the last 24hours.


Cases In Kenya

Kenya has a total number of 56,601 cases since the first patient was diagnosed in March.

Speaking after a tour at Malindi Sub-county Hospital, Kagwe said 14 more patients have succumbed to the disease raising Kenya’s death toll to 1,027.

An additional 248 patients were discharged; 178 from the home-based care program, and 70 from hospitals around the country. Total recoveries now stand at 37,442.

Addressing reports that hospitals within the country were overwhelmed by the second wave of the pandemic, CS Kagwe termed the claims as inaccurate.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said that deliberations are still ongoing to determine the way forward on reopening schools for the learners still languishing at home.
