Chief Justice Martha Koome has responded to the Former Governor of Nairobi, Mike Sonko, video allegations on High Court Judge Said Chitembwe.

Chief Justice Martha Koome has responded to Mike Sonko leaks that linked High Court Judge Said Chitembwe to bribery allegations. 

On Thursday, November 18, Koome stated that she had seen media reports on Justice Chitembwe.

"The Judicial Service Commission will meet to deliberate on the issue according to its constitution and statutory set procedures. 

"The removal of a judge may be initiated only by the Judicial Service Commission acting on its own motion, or on the petition of any person to the Judicial Service Commission," the statement read in part.

Sonko released a video dubbed 'Rot In Judiciary' allegedly capturing Justice Chitembwe instances of corrupt dealings.

The judge was captured on a video posted by Sonko on Tuesday, November 16, where he was heard asking for Ksh100 million to compromise a case he was presiding over.

Responding to the allegations, Justice Chitembwe said that Sonko released the video because they dismissed his appeal against Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu. 

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi called on Judiciary to act following the damning expose by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

"I have examined the exposé by Mike Sonko. The Judiciary took him out of office through subterfuge, and he is determined to go down with it if JSC does not act.

"JSC must initiate the process of removal of the Judge on its own, without any further delay. It is so ordered," Havi said.
