A Kenyan businessman has acquired three planes during an auction held by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), to offload planes that had been abandoned by owners.

KAA put on auction 73 planes abandoned at different airports in the country, with some going for as low as 700 dollars, which is equivalent to Ksh70,000.

According to media reports, KAA decided to auction the planes as parking fees was increasing, but the owners had not shown interest to offset the same.

During the auction, a businessman man named David Njuguna reportedly acquired three planes; which he says will be for personal use, business and the last one a donation to ODM Leader Raila Odinga for his campaigns.

“One is for business, the jet one is going to be for personal use and the other one we are going to support Baba for the campaigns. We are going to donate one to ODM,” he told Reuters.

Meanwhile, the former Prime Minister is yet to announce whether he will contest the presidential seat come 2022, but all indication re that he isin the race, and may use the Azimio la Umoja initiative as his campaign platform.

The auction elicited massive reactions with many wondering whether the planes were in good condition for usage.

A section of netizens questioned Kenya’s airworthiness, arguing that such planes may end up causing disasters in the country’s airspace.
