Chief Justice Martha Koome has responded to critics calling for her resignation over her involvement in the technical working committee for 2022 election planning.
Speaking during the ongoing Devolution Conference, Koome said it was premature for a section of leaders to attack her, arguing that she is the only link between Judiciary and other State Institutions.
On Wednesday, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale and other UDA Party leaders called for Koome's resignation, arguing that she cannot wear two hats with conflicting roles.

"That you are preparing elections. You sit in the in the preparation of elections and when the elections are over. You want to wear another hat as an independent judicial officer in the determination of the presidential elections," Duale stated.
UDA party also lodged an official complaint stating that Koome's continued involvement as the CJ and chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission would interfere with the coming elections.
"In this case, you are wearing the hat of those that are required to ensure that all is set for the elections this case the IEBC, and thereafter you shall be expected to wear the hat of a judge and deliberate and determine any elections dispute," the statement read in part.
However, Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and Central Organization of Trade Unions Secretary-General, Francis Atwoli have defended Koome, noting that she deserves to be in the committee and ensure everything is being done in accordance with the law.
