The dinner, which required one to part with Ksh1 million to partake, has been postponed following an "overwhelming response".

ODM leader Raila Odinga's dinner scheduled at Kempinsky Hotel, Nairobi, on December 7, has been postponed.

The dinner, which required one to part with Ksh1 million to partake, has been cancelled following an "overwhelming response".

A new date for the dinner will be communicated later.

"Due to unanticipated overwhelming support, the dinner has been postponed to a later date to be communicated for better planning," read the notice.

According to Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino, the postponement is to allow for the organizers to seek a bigger venue that will accommodate a larger number of people.

"Dinner postponed to a later date due to overwhelming support. This will enable us to prepare well and get a bigger venue," he said.

The dinner, in all appearances, aimed to raise funds for the ODM leader who is set to declare his interest in the country's top seat.

The ODM leader is expected to declare his bid on December 10, at Kasarani stadium.

About 60,000 people are expected to grace the ceremony.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, who is Raila's confidante, said 200 MPs, 40 senators and 40 Governors have confirmed their attendance
