The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has shared photos of a new-look Uhuru Park, which has been under renovation.

The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) on Tuesday, August 30, shared photos of the refurbished iconic Nairobi recreational park, Uhuru Park, after undergoing a major facelift.

By look of the photos and video shared by NMS, the park has a renovated entrance with new pavements inside the facility and well-maintained lawns.

New benches for the public have also been put in the park with a number of monuments also erected.

NMS stated that the revamped park will also host a play ground, an outdoor gym, jogging tracks, botanical trails, outdoor library and a skating park.


NMS stated that the facelift was meant to ensure that the park met international standards.

“Nairobi's most popular recreational parks, Uhuru & Central Parks have undergone a major facelift to ensure they meet international standards. The green spaces have been exceptionally phenomenal in the evolution of our nation as they have both hosted historic national events,” NMS stated.


NMS further said the park has a rich history as it was opened to the public by Kenya's first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta on 23rd, May 1969, in embodiment of the country's freedom.

“Uhuru Park was gazetted and opened to the public by Kenya's first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta on 23rd May 1969 in embodiment of the country's freedom. It is also the home of the Mau-Mau freedom fighters monument that honours victims of torture during the colonial era,” NMS sated.


According to NMS, the revamped green spaces will play a critical role in environmental pollution management, social- economic development of the nation as well as the physical well-being of citizens.
