The seemingly excited GSU graduands filmed themselves making utterances that were interpreted by many as threatening to Kenyans.

The National Police Service (NPS) has condemned an incident where General Service Unit (GSU) graduands filmed themselves making "reckless remarks" shortly before their passing out.

In a statement, NPS regretted the incident saying the group acted contrary to rules and regulations guiding the service.

"We wish to clarify and assure the public that the behaviour portrayed in the clip is not acceptable and does not reflect the values of the GSU, Kenya Police Service and the National Police Service," NPS noted in a statement.

The video, which has generated lots of buzz on social media, showed the seemingly excited youth making utterances that were interpreted by many as threatening Kenyans.

NPS divulged that all graduands have been acquainted with necessary training requiring them to uphold the rule of law and enable them to become responsive and responsible officers of the law at the service of citizens.

According to the police service, disciplinary action will be taken against the group following their "irresponsible and reckless" acts.

"The oath of allegiance they took as part of their graduation is a testament to the sanctity of their duty to service. The remarks as made in the clip are therefore regrettable and stand condemned.

"An internal review is ongoing with a view of preferring appropriate measures regarding the incident. GSU is renowned for its focused training aimed at producing highly disciplined and responsible officers," the statement added.

The response has also attracted massive reactions among Kenyans.

A majority of them have implored the NPS not to fire the youths saying they were merely excited after months of vigorous training.

Some agreed with the NPS that the youths deserve a punishment and further training that will shape their adaptation into the service they called to.
