Nairobi’s new look Uhuru Gardens will open to the public for the first time after more than one and a half years of closure.

The first event to be hosted at the Historical gardens will be the Jamhuri Day celebrations on Sunday, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta. This will be President Kenyatta’s last Jamhuri celebration as Head of State.

The recreational space was closed down by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage on June 11, last year to allow for renovations.

“We need to grow new grass…we need to make sure the place has picnic sites for families so that parents can bring their children and instill a sense of history and a sense of pride,” CS Amina said while touring the facility.

11,000 guests are expected to attend the Jamhuri day celebrations.[New look Uhuru Gardens]
