One of the lawyers who was representing Deputy President William Ruto during his case at the International Criminal Court (ICC) has divulged that the move by lawyer Paul Gicheru to surrender to the court caught them unawares.
In an Interview with Nation, lawyer Katwa Kigen noted that the DP’s legal team is following the proceeding closely, adding that they are yet to identify the motive of Gicheru’s surrender.
According to Kigen, the DP’s legal team will craft a plan once they have all the facts regarding the case.
“After issues of surrender and its context become clearer, we will consult and decide if and what we may need to do… Being so recent and yet to unfold, they (Dr Ruto and Mr Sang) will in the course of time apply their minds to it, consult and then take a position,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gicheru on Friday appeared before the ICC and denied all the allegations of witness tampering.
Appearing before Judge Reine Adélaïde Sophie Alapini-Gansou of Pre-Trial Chamber A, Gicheru said the charges were false and vowed to fight them all.
“I do not intend to admit the charges, I wish to state that the allegations read out to me are not true, all the six of them are false,” he said.
Gicheru is accused of influencing witnesses to ditch the cases through bribes.
