A man who had illegally boarded a cargo train lost his legs when he jumped off the moving train at River Githanja bridge in Murang'a.

Confirming the incident, Murang'a South Sub-County Police Commander Alexander Shikondi revealed the man hanged on the train ferrying petroleum in Githurai, Kiambu County.

Shikondi added that the man lost his legs after being run by the last two cargo coaches. Luckily, residents rushed to assist him and ferried him to the hospital 50 meters from the place of the incident.

"He feared that he would be arrested at the Maragua town terminus. He did not get his math right since he was not able to jump clear off the train and the rails," Shikondi stated.

"We have been informed by doctors that he has lost the two legs. The doctors have amputated the stubs to control the injuries.

"We called the terminus and the crew was not even aware of the incident. They said all the listed crew and cargo were safe, meaning the youth was an illegal passenger," he added.

According to the Sub-county police, he will not be charged in court as the incident serves as enough punishment and a warning to others.

The police will carry out investigations to establish the exact place he hiked the lift and what crossed his mind to jump off once he gets better.
