A police report indicated that the attack was a revenge mission on the security officers over heightened security patrols in the area and the recent recovery of lost livestock

A police officer attached to Archers Police Post in Samburu County was on Sunday, January 2 found dead after being killed by morans.

According to a police report, three unidentified morans visited the station and asked Police Constable Moses Mwambia for drinking water.

It was when the deceased officer was fetching water from a tank within the station when the morans killed him.

According to Peter Lolkireri who is the officer in charge of Lerata Police Post, he was making a call a few meters from the station when he heard gunshots after which he mobilized two conservancy rangers and rushed to the station.

"He was out of the post about 200 meters searching for telephone network and other officers were on patrol within Namunyak area and its environs when he heard the gunshots emanating from the post," a police report read.

After arriving at the station, they found the officer's body lying beside the water tank with two gunshot wounds.

The report further indicated that the attack was a revenge mission on the security officers over heightened security patrols in the area and the recent recovery of lost livestock.

"On further inquiries, it was established that it was a revenge attack on security officers based in the region

"It is also believed that the recent recovery of stolen stock from the morans is a contributing factor to the revenge attack,” the report read in part.
