Fleeing MP Leaves Behind Sh7,000 Bill After Violating Covid-19 Guidelines

Kandunyi Member of Parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi on Monday left a bill of about Sh7000 while fleeing from police officers.

The MP, who was in Ogembo area, was holding a party meeting, going against the new directive of President Uhuru Kenyatta banning any political gathering,  

During his address to the nation, President Uhuru Kenyatta last week suspended political gatherings for 60 days.  

Gatherings are only allowed in social halls, and attendees equivalent to a third of the capacity are allowed to attend. 

The MP escaped the scene after police officers demanded that he accompany them to the Ogembo Police station for recording a statement.  

However, the MP took off in his car without clearing the bill at the eatery. 

"We don't have his contact and we are at a loss on how we are going to reach him so that he can settle bills for the food the members ate here," said one hotel staffer. 

Notably, the bill had amounted to Sh14,000, but only half had been paid.  

Wamunyinyi was meeting Ford Kenya party members and officials from Kisii and Nyamira counties at a restaurant on Kisii-Kilgoris road when officers on patrol stormed the facility.  

The meetings in Kisii were to rally members to attend the upcoming national delegates conference to elect new leaders.  

Currently, there is a tussle within the party with leader Moses Wetangula.

"All of you are aware that the party has not conducted any elections for more than a decade now which is illegal according to the registrar of the political party's act," said Wamunyinyi. 

It is worth mentioning that back in May, Wamunyunyi attempted a coup within the party to unseat Wetangula. However, through the help of the registrar of political parties, Wetangula managed to regain his seat.
