Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, George Natembeya has resigned. 

In a televised address, the regional commissioner announced his resignation to focused on his Trans Nzoia gubernatorial bid in the August 9 General Elections.  

"I will from now on focus on politics as l seek the backing of residents of Trans Nzoia to become their governor 

"My rivals have been asking me to remove my official uniform and face them in Trans Nzoia. As from now, I hang my boots to teach them about leadership," he said.

Natembeya declared interest in the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat in September 2021, noting that it is within his right to run for an elective seat. 

“I want to be the governor of Trans Nzoia County in 2022. It is within my rights to seek an elective post,” Natembeya said.

He now joins Kakai Bisau and Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa in the race as incumbent Patrick Khaemba is set to exit after serving two terms in office.  

Recently, Natembeya dismissed Wamalwa in the race for governorship termimg him unexperienced, urging him to vie for ward representative. 

“If we are looking at experience, I have 25 years, and you (Chris Wamalwa) has 10 years. If we have all decided that there is a problem in Trans Nzoia, then it will mean, because of my 25-year experience, I will contest for governor and you contest for MCA,” Natembeya said.
