Speaking during Azimio La Umoja's consultative meeting in Naivasha, Kibwana noted that he had consulted the people of Makueni and they gave him the green light to support Raila. 

Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana has shelved his presidential ambitions to support ODM party leader Raila Odinga in the August 9 General Elections. 

Prior to his announcement, the county boss had declared interest in running for the country's top seat. 

Speaking during Azimio La Umoja's consultative meeting in Naivasha, Kibwana noted that he had consulted the people of Makueni and they gave him the green light to support Raila. 

He, however, hinted at resuming his presidential ambitions in the future. 

"I consulted my people in Makueni and they gave me the go-ahead to support Azimio la Umoja

"They told me that I have age on my side and will resume my presidential ambitions in future," Kibwana stated.

Over 30 governors attended the consultative meeting, further declaring support for Raila's candidature. 

"This has been a consultative meeting between the governors and the fifth as we assured him of our support and discuss the way forward with regards to the Presidential election

"There were 30 of us present and a couple of us who were absent with apology," Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Mureithi stated.  

On the other hand, Kitui governor Charity Ngilu noted that governors will do anything possible withi their capacity to make sure Raila wins the presidency. 

"We will go out of our way to ensure Raila Odinga is the president in August. There’s as danger in electing Ruto as the president as he has always opposed the Kenyan constitution," Ngilu said.
