One police officer has been killed after armed bandits stormed a police post along Isiolo - Samburu border on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

According to reports, the bandits managed to steal two rifles and over 50 rounds of ammunition.

As at the time of reporting, it was not yet clear whether there were any other casualties or injuries reported from the raid.

The incident occurred barely a month after suspected bandits raided a police station in Samburu County.

Constable Moses Mwambia was shot as he fetched water for a gang of bandits that had raided Lerata police post near Archer’s post on January 2.

According to police, the gang had gone to the station and asked for drinking water. They shot the officer dead from behind as he went to fetch water for them from a nearby tank.

The bandits escaped from the scene after the 5 pm incident. The motive is yet to be known.

On Christmas Day, another officer was shot dead in the Samburu area in another banditry attack.

The attackers torched several manyattas and stole livestock left behind by villagers who had fleed the area.

The deceased was part of a team that was pursuing the stolen animals when he was hit.

The gang had earlier on also shot and killed a 60-year-old man in a suspected retaliation mission.
